Retro Targa
A nod to the Targa Florio
The Retro Targa is our “kiwi version” of the Targa Florio
Retro Targa introduces an innovative format that combines elements of time trials and rallying. Participants will navigate stages based on predetermined minimum stage times, and the results will be calculated through a unique points allocation system. While actual stage times will still be recorded and displayed, the final ranking will be derived from points earned, creating a hybrid competitive experience.
This new division complements the existing Targa Competition and has been carefully designed to appeal to enthusiasts keen on engaging with their vehicles, without the increased pressure of the high-speed main competition event. The initiative aims to motivate drivers of older vehicles to bring their cars out of storage, enjoying the thrill of motorsport in a more controlled environment.
Open to all competition vehicles, the Retro Targa primarily targets the older classic cars, that may struggle to reach the 200 kph limit of the main Targa competition . A maximum speed limit of 160 kph has been established for this division, promoting accessibility while maintaining spirited competition.
Remember, through most of the roads used in Targa New Zealand events, 160Kph will bring the smile just as large as those in the main competition -for far less cost on the equipment.
