Terms and Conditions for the Invitation Process for Competition Entries
The Invitation to Compete is a two-stage process where the number of entries accepted is limited. Priority is given to Sports, GT, V8 cars and cars with competition history.
All Targa New Zealand events are run under Motorsport New Zealand Inc jurisdiction. The legal business name is Targa Promotions (NZ) Limited trading as Targa NZ.
The Organisers reserve the right to decline any application without disclosing the reason.
1: Application Form:
Once you have completed the online Application to Compete & paid the non-refundable deposit of $600 please send a photo of your car. If your application is unsuccessful, you may be asked to submit another vehicle for consideration. Vehicle details and modifications must be filled out. If details are found to differ from that given, your invitation may be rescinded and fees forfeited or excluded from all results.
2: Invitation to Compete:
Once your application is received and accepted by the Vehicle Selection Committee, the successful applicant will be advised an Acceptance of Entry Certificate and an invoice.
An entrant wishing to change the vehicle originally nominated must notify the organisers who reserve the right to withdraw the original invitation and consider the proposed replacement vehicle as a new application. Additional crew members may be nominated as replacements.
3: Entry Fees:
Entry fees as detailed on the Targa website include all the benefits set out in Section 4. All entry fees are billed in NZD dollars (NZ$).
Entry is conditional on the following:
(a) The nominated vehicle being acceptable to the Vehicle Selection Committee.
(b) Pricing structure is valid till the designated date.
(c) All entry fees must be paid in full by the date on the invoice (7 days).
(d) Entry fees not paid in full by the closing date as specified in the Supplementary Regulations will automatically increase to the next entry fee level.
4: Entry Fees include:
(a) Lunches for two per day, two Prize-giving Function tickets, Competition livery, one set of Route Books, and registration of two service vehicles. Two Legends Dinner tickets are included for Targa NZ competitors.
(b) Not included in any entry fees are:
(1) Accommodation costs
(2) Insurance costs
(3) Additional Event Function costs
(4) Fuel costs
(5) Property damage i.e. fences etc
(6) Registration of additional service vehicles
All those items in section 4(b) are additional costs.
5: Payment:
(a) A non-refundable deposit of $600 must accompany the completed online Application to Compete before your application will be considered.
(b) Entry fee must be paid in full by the due date on the invoice.
(c) If entering all 2018 events, entry fees can be paid by instalments, either by bank automatic payment or credit card (credit card fees apply). Please contact the Targa office for more information.
(d) The name “Targa NZ” will appear on cardholder statements for any transactions through this website.
6: Refunds:
All withdrawals must be in writing
The following is the criteria for refunds:
(a) If an application has not been accepted the deposit will be refunded.
(b) An applicant who has been accepted or withdraws their application before being notified will forfeit their deposit.
(c) An applicant who has been accepted to compete and who withdraws from the competition prior to three months before that event start date will forfeit the deposit.
(d) Any applicant withdrawing from the competition within three months of the start date of that event will forfeit the deposit plus an additional $1200.
(e) Any applicant who wishes to withdraw and transfer their entry may do so at the discretion of the organisers. Up to 75% of all payments made may be transferred to another Club Targa organised event within the next 12 month period, providing payment terms are up to date and the vehicle nominated is acceptable to the Vehicle Selection Committee.
(f) The Invitation to Compete is not transferable to another applicant or any other person.
7: Where applications have been transferred to another Targa run event:
(a) Transferred applicants will not be automatically issued with a new Invitation to Complete in that Targa run event.
(b) Transferred applicants are required to lodge a new application with the Organisers via the online Application to Compete.
(c) If a transferred applicant does not subsequently compete in that Targa run event OR subsequently withdraws from that event then ALL the remaining credit balance is forfeited.
8. Licences:
(a) For New Zealand Competitors: Driver and Co-Driver require current full civil driving licences and MSNZ R Grade Licences (National Rally).
(b) For International Competitors other than Australians: Driver and Co-driver require current full civil driving licences and equivalent MSNZ R Grade Licences issued by their parent ASN accompanied by the declarations as detailed in NSC Schedule L Article 5.3
(c) For Australian Competitors: Driver and Co-driver require current full civil driving licences and CAMS Rally Motorsport Licences with a CAMZ Tasman Visa.
9: How to obtain a National Rally Licence:
The MSNZ A001 – Competition License Application Form can be downloaded from the MSNZ website (www.motorsport.org.nz). Please note, you must belong to a car club to complete this form. You can join Club Targa Inc by downloading the form from our website. It is located under “Enter an Event”.
10: What is the Format?
• Targa Hawkes Bay 17th-20th May- 3 day Event
• Targa NZ 22rd-27th October- 5 day Event
11: Safety Equipment Required for TARGA:
(a) All competing vehicles must have a current registration and warrant of fitness.
(b) All vehicles shall have steel roll-over protection that meets their ASN rules.
(c) All vehicles must carry or have fitted a safety triangle, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and approved safety minimum 4-point harness, as per their ASN rules.
(d) All drivers and co-drivers must have MSNZ/ASN /FIA approved protective helmets and clothing.
(e) All drivers and co-drivers must have an approved head and neck restraint device.
(f) All competing vehicles must run a RallySafe unit. For details on this go to www.rallysafe.com.au
12: Supplementary Regulations:

Supplementary Regulations specific to the event you have entered will be posted on the website approximately 6 weeks prior to the event.
13: Tyres:
A maximum number of tyres per car are allowed before incurring time penalties. These are to be of commercially available road tyres.
14: Eligible Cars and Categories
(a) Classic 2WD Competition
Being 2 wheel drive (2WD) cars which have a manufacture date prior to 1 January 1986, based on first year of production of that model.
• Forced induction cars or cars fitted with sequential gearboxes are specifically prohibited.
The Competition Categories are as follows,
Category 1: 0-2000cc
Category 2: 2001-3400cc
Category 3: 3401cc & over
(b) Production (GT2) 2WD
Being 2 wheel drive (2WD) vehicles which have a manufacture date from 1 January 1986, based on first year of production of that model, with allowable modifications.
• After market sequential gearboxes are prohibited.
The Competition Categories are as follows,
Category 4: 0-2000cc
Category 5: 2001-3400cc
Category 6: 3401cc & over
(c) Production (GT4) 4WD
Being 4 wheel drive (4WD) vehicles, with allowable modifications.
• After market sequential gearboxes are prohibited.
The Competition Categories are as follows,
Category 8: Pre 2000, first year of production prior to 1 January 2000
Category 9: Post 2000, vehicles produced after 1 January 2000
Allcomers (Extreme) 2WD & 4WD
Being all other 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive vehicles not eligible for other competitions (a)-(c) above.
The Competition Categories are as follows,
Category 7: Open 2WD, all 2 wheel drive vehicles not eligible for categories 1-6
Category 10: Open 4WD, all 4 wheel drive vehicles not eligible for categories 8-9
The Eligibility Committee has the right to review the placing of any vehicle, regardless of which competition, into another category, should it be considered outside the “Spirit of the event”.
Terms and Conditions Specifically for Targa Tour Entries
The application process for the Targa Tour is the same as the Competition entry process above, and Tour entrants follow the same route as the competition vehicles, but there are some subtle differences as covered below, however the number of entries accepted is still limited and all Targa New Zealand events are run under Motorsport New Zealand jurisdiction. The Organisers reserve the right to decline any application without disclosing the reason.
Entry Fees: All entry fees must be paid in full by the date on the invoice (7 days). The entry fee includes Lunches for two per day, two Prize-giving tickets, Tour livery and a set of Route books. Two Legends Dinner tickets are included for Targa NZ Tour entries. Not included in any entry fees are- Accommodation, Insurance, additional Functions and Fuel, however accommodation and function packages are available on request.

Targa Tour Licences & insurance: Both crew members must have a full civil driver’s licence and a minimum of a MSNZ M Grade Licence (Club Sport). Proof of a minimum of third party insurance for the vehicle entered must be supplied at Documentation.
To obtain a Club Sport Licence: Please contact the Targa office for specific information.
Safety Equipment: All vehicles must have a current registration and warrant of fitness and carry a safety triangle, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and tow rope. Each vehicle must have a TrackIt GPS unit active at all times during the event. TrackIt GPS units must be leased from Targa NZ.

Tyres: There are no restriction on the number and make of tyre you can use.
Service Crew: are not required.
